MELASTI CEREMONY
This ceremony is a purification ceremony performed once a year generally 3 or 4 days before Nyepi (silence day). The Hindu people parade and they are accompanied by traditional gamelan to the beach. Then the ceremony is conducted on the beach and the people bring symbols refers to the clean ocean. The Balinese people start parading at 9 o’clock in the morning and finish by mid day.
Melasti ceremony is very special ceremony for Hindu Balinese. So many tourists both domestic and international ones are interested to see the ceremony. Some areas and around where the ceremony is performed is very busy which cause bad traffic.
