GALUNGAN AND KUNINGAN DAY
Galungan and Kuningan are special celebrations for Hindus in Bali. Galungan are celebrated in every six months based on Hinduβs calendar which has 35 days in a month. The celebrations mark the victory of Dharma (order) and Adharma (disorder). 3 days before the celebration day, people are busy to prepare the offering. Then, a day before Galungan day Balinese Hindus makes special meal from pig. This animal is very special among Balinese people. Generally pig is very lazy and greedy animal and it symbolizes adharma (disorder) that is why Balinese Hindus hope that those adharmas are sacrificed and set people free from those adharmas. There will be also special ceremony and each house will be decorated with stunning penjor, a curve bamboo pole decorated with leaves and fruits.
