BALINESE CELEBRATION DAY
For Hindu Balinese people, March 2009 is very special month since they celebrate three special celebration days, started by celebrating Galungan on 17th to 19th March and followed by silence day “Nyepi” and Kuningan day which falls on 27th to 28th March.
Galungan and Kuningan Day are celebrated twice in a year which means victory to fight against bad thing, thus everybody celebrates it in peace and harmony and is engaged to ritual and ceremonial pray. The ceremony is followed by parade of Barong to welcome the Galungan and Kuningan Day.
Then, Nyepi is a silence day to celebrate a Balinese new year. The way to celebrate this day is totally different as normally people around the world do. Everyone should stay at home and stop doing activity outside such as working. At night time, lamps and television should turn off and everyone speaks in a very soft voice. Normally, to welcome Nyepi day, Balinese people make a scary dolls called “Ogoh-ogoh” and parade along the way. Anyhow this year, everyone will miss this attraction since the government of Bali informed that No “ogoh-ogoh” parade this year due to political issue during campaign of presidential election for safety reason.
In fact, a unique of Nyepi still attracts many tourists to come and experience this silence day. It is allowed to have little light in Hotel or Bali Villa but not for private house. Thus, if you prefer to have different experience of Nyepi, do not wonder where to stay in Bali since there are many hotels or villa for rent in Bali offer special package for Nyepi at a very affordable price.
Nyepi could be a very memorable holiday in Bali.
